    Medical Coding Books
If I remember correctly I had read that there are certain instances when the doctor is out of the office you can still charge for a nurse visit (nurse practioner). The visits would be for either H&Ps or followup visits.

However, I can not find what codes or even if we are able to code E/M if a physician is not on site.

  2. Default Billing for NP
You would direct bill for the NP services. The NP would have to billing numbers with the insurance companies (including MEDICARE). The NP would be able to see new patients and established patients with new or f/u problems. They would be reimbursed 85% of the physicians fee schedule. You would use the same E&M codes that the physician bills, 99201-99205 for new patient visits and 99212-99215 for established patient visits.
