Default consult with family/patient not present

    AAPC: Back to School

One of the pedicatricians in the practice met with the mother of a child without the child present.

i've told the dr that this is non billable as the E/M codes require an exam to be done and, of course, this cannot be done without the patient present.

    any exceptions to this rule?

Hi there, this was a huge discussion a couple of months ago. Here's the link - http://www.aapc.com/memberarea/forum...ad.php?t=27538. Read it for the content you're looking for and not for the extra discussion. Sorry, it made an impression on me and its the only one I can remember.
