Thread: POS for Hysterosalpingogram

    Question POS for Hysterosalpingogram

    AAPC: Back to School
We need some help in determining the POS at which our physician performs HSGs. Our practice previously billed these as 22 - "outpatient surgery". We want to double check and make sure we are billing these accurately. They are being performed at a free standing radiological facility. Only radiological exams (ie: X-ray, MRI, CT, etc) are done at this facility. After reviewing the list of POS from CMS, we are unsure what category this would fall into. We spoke with the facility, and they bill their claims out as POS 11. Would the physician also bill with POS 11 then?

Thank you in advance for any clarification!

To my knowledge, YES, physician should also bill with the professional component, why because this procedure is strictly to be carried out by the physician and it is not allowed to be done by technicianor other health workers. to be more accurate it is to be carried out by an OBGYN

We are billing with the professional componet (58340, 58345), but we just want to verify if we should be billing those codes as place of service 11 or something else.
