    Smile Oral & Max questions

    AAPC: Back to School
Are there any CPC members out there that are working at an Oral and Maxillofacial specialist that I could correspond with in regards to what you are billing for E&M levels?

Default OMS Coders Should Stand Together

I have been working in a three surgeon oral and maxillofacial surgery center for about a year now (previously I worked in family practice for about 9 yrs). I have been hoping to find other coders out there who also deal with the unique issues we deal face every day. I'm not sure how much help I can be with E/M questions but perhaps we can share what knowledge we have. One of my toughest problems is finding a way to get Medicare to pay for anesthesia. Can you help with that? Wouldn't it be great if the AAPC forum or other bulletin boards actually had a section for OMS issues? Alas, it seems we are ignored!

I work with a six doctor oral and maxillofacial surgery group. I've been here 5 years and have been disappointed in the lack of resources available to our specialty. I would be happy to correspond with you and share info.

Glad to hear from you. I would love to be able to exchange ideas with anyone else in this specialty as it has a very unique set of coding problems. Wish the AAPC would do some seminars/workshops/etc. w/OMS. I think networking w/other coders in the specialty may be the best technique we have until someone comes up with a better resource for us. It would be fantastic if we could correspond as I am a newbie to this field & this office did not have a CPC previously, so they basically used trial & error. You can leave me a private message here or I can include my e-mail address in the future. As I eluded to in prev post, is there some tip for getting Medicare to pay for IV? Thanks for any knowledge you can share!

We have an OMF surgeon in our practice. I, too am disappointed with a lack of resources. I don't feel comfortable at all with what I'm doing. It would be great to have someone to bounce things off of. There are three coders in our practice and if we all coded the same OP note, we'd all get something different. I don't know if it's the documentation or the coders.

Default Let's start our own little network!

Perhaps this would be a good opportunity to start our own little OMS network where we can exchange ideas, ask for help with our coding issues, and share resources. Although I do not have a lot of experience in this field, I am willing to assist when I can and would love to have others to bounce ideas off of. You can reach me by sending a private message or my work e-mail address is betobogins@bellsouth.net . If we cannot find other resources, we can just make our own!

I would be more than happy to add my input---as limited as it seems to be. I'm glad there are others in my situation.
