Technical and professional components

  1. Question Technical and professional components
    Medical Coding Books
We are just starting to do Ultrasonic guidance in our office for joint injections. Do we need to seperate the professional and the technical components on the claim?? Since they have a different fee schedule. 76942-26,76942-TC ? Or can we just have both modifiers to the 76942-26,TC and just add the two fees together? Help, this is all new to me. Thanks

Typically you either bill -26 for the professional component, TC for the technical component, or with no modifier for the global fee.

It all depends on whose equipment you are using. If it is your own and your doctor is reading the exam, then there would be no modifiers used. If it is your equipment and the doctor is not reading the exam and someone else is then you would need TC. If you are using someone else's equipment but your doctor is reading the exan then you use 26 mod. Never bill the 26 and TC together at the same time.
