    How do you code for recurrent diseases or conditions if there is no code for the recurrent disease? I'm coding for outpatient.

    Each new onset of this condition is exactly that a new onset. So it is treated as a new dx.

    This article is from 2009, so you may want to check to make sure the actual code #'s are still valid, but I imagine its probably still applicable, and might be helpful in some way...Seemed pretty informative...

    Arrow Fun fact on this topic...
    There will be an ICD-10 code to specify recurrence (actually, several, depending on the conditions)...Check this page out to see what you'd be working with 3 years from now...it's pretty cool!
