preoperative exams

    Medical Coding Books
    When billing for preoperative exams, we are using the surgery code with the modifier 56. How would I bill when we do a preoperative exam for dental work?

    I'd go with an E/M code, as long as your provider isn't the one doing the procedure. I could be wrong, though.
