Shoulder Coding

    We have a physician who insists that you can code 23412 with 23130 even though the CCI edits clearly state otherwise. Do any of you have articles from seminars or associations that show it is clearly incorrect to do so? If so could you email me a copy at jquinter@smoc-pt.com.

    They can be billed same shoulder as long as 23130 is being done for more than just removal of a spur. Documentation should say something like conversion of a type 2 acromion to a type 1. Supported in AAOS articles. If the patient is Medicare though, they're bundling regardless of appeals.
