    Default AIDS first

Yes, always code the undelying disease first, especially with AIDS. Also, make sure that the patient has been diagnosed with the active disease and not just a positive AIDS test. I am sure that you know it but it is a common mistake. If it is just a positivie test, use the V- code and place it last after the PNA.
