I need some clarification regarding e/m visits. Let's say a patient comes in with shoulder pain, we do an injections, and have the patient follow up in 2 weeks.

When the patient comes back can we document another e/m service for the follow up of the same problem?

What about if it's been 6 months and the patient comes in with the same complaint?

absolutely.. is there a reason why you are questioning this?

If the initial visit includes services that carry global days, then it depends on the global period as to when you can bill an E&M. If the initial visit was an E&M then yes you can bill for each visit according to physician documentation. Is that what you were asking? Is there a particular procedure that was done that you are concerned about? Post that code and someone can direct you on the global days involved and when it would be appropriate to bill an E&M. Hope this helps.
