    Default Hammertime

    AAPC: Back to School
I was recently at a seminar where the instrutor indicated that a capsulotomy of the MPJ 28270) is included in a hammertoe correction (28285) according to Medicare.

I can find no description of a hammertoe correction that includes work at the MPJ. I realize the 28270 is a separate procedure.....but it is at a different joint that the hammering of the toe.

    your thoughts would be appreciated

According to CodeX 2010 software from the AAOS, 28270 is NOT included in 28285.

    28272 is included though.
