just debridement?

  1. Question just debridement?
    Medical Coding Books
Would appreciate any input for the following short note. Patient has osteomyelitis of left big toe. Incision is made thru skin, subq over an ulcer of the toe. This was carried down to distal phalanx which was very mushy. Bone was debrided by cutting almost half of the distal phalanx with rongeur until healthy bone was reached. Wound was irrigated and packed. 11044 ?

  2. Default just debridement
11044 would be the correct choice.

Look at 28124. I am not sure about this code because I do not code in this area very often but it looks like you could use this since he took part of the bone and the patient had osteopmylitis of this toe. Let me know what you think.

That is exactly the code I had also considered. Thanks

I agree with TCOOPER with the code 28124 as the correct code for this procedure
