  1. Default abdominoplasty/panniculectomy
    Medical Coding Books
Abdominoplasty ("Tummy Tuck") is a surgical procedure which tightens a lax anterior abdominal wall caused by diastasis recti (the separation of the two rectus muscles along the medial line of the abdominal wall) and removes excess fat and abdominal skin. This procedure reduces the protruding abdomen and provides an overall improvement in the person's shape and figure.

Panniculectomy/abdominal lipectomy is the surgical resection of the overhanging “apron” of redundant skin and fat in the lower abdominal area. A panniculus or fold is often but not only seen in men or women who have had significant weight loss or in morbidly obese patients.

    Hope this helps.

Why does something that seems so simple have to be headache-inducing?

It looks like 17999 is the code for abdominoplasty without evidence of a panniculectomy:

I would read the op note and because code 15830 includes lipectomy and panniniculectomy i would only use the 15847 in addition to the 15830 if in the op note the doc says he had move the umblical and do a fascial plication of the abdomen. Hope this helps good luck
