Duplicate charging for different providers

My doctor was on call and charged the same e/m code 99232, as another doctor in the hospital. They were already paid and we are being denied because of this. Do I use a modifier? We were not the admitting doctor but he was called and saw the patient for different diagnosis. Anyone have any idea??? Thanks!

You need to call the insurance company and let them know that you are not affiliated with the other doctor and your doctor saw the patient for another diagnosis.

I used to work for a multispecialty office and I would have more than one doctor in my office see the same patient for different reasons. As long as the doctor saw the patient for a different diagnosis you should get paid. It should only take a phone call.
