Billing for a PA

    Default Billing for a PA

We recently hired a PA to work in our practice and it has been a long time since I did any billing for a PA. Is it the same as billing for the NP. He does have his own NPI and a Medicare UPIN# which now is invalid. Any help in refreshing my memory would be greatly appreciated.

The medicare website has a great tool to use for billing incident to. You didn't say if the PA will be supervised or not. It is identical to a NP.

A side note: some stated allow a NP to admit patients, some do not. PA's can never admit patients as their liscensure limits that ability, just in case you are billing any Admit CPT codes.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Rosie,

It is going to depend on which state you're in and the carriers in your area. Some here do allow a PA to be billed out under their own and some require a supervising MD. I would start with your Medicare carrier and then Medicaid and the larger commerical carriers.
