    Question Axillobifemoral bypass and thrombectomies
    Medical Coding Books
I am coding for the above. My quesion is, wouldn't the thrombectomies of the femoral arteries be inclusive to the bypass? According to CCI edits 35371 can be reported with mod -59, but I am hesitant to do so because I think a thrombectomy would be a necessary component for the outcome of the bypass 35654.
Any thoughts? (and do I have the right codes?)

No, 35371 will not be coded with 35654 because it is bundled in it. While a bypass is created, a separate tunnel is given to the thrombosed artery for blood flow; making it useless. Even if a thrombectomy is done to protect the patient from embolus, it is inclusive in bypass procedure.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you! I feel more confident with your response. I am new to vascular coding so it is a learning process
