    Default 440.4 versus 444.81

Does anyone have access to The Coding Clinic and can advise the use of both of these codes??? I would greatly appreciate it!

Sorry not subscribed to that, but can say that 440.4 implies "CHRONIC COMPLETE" occlusion versus 444.81 which is acute and/or partial occlusion of artery.

    Hope this helps.

444.81-embolism and thrombosis of iliac artery
440.4-chronic total occlusion of artery of extremities

Also not a subscriber to the Coding clinic.

444.81 is for an occlusion due to embolus or thrombus
440.4 is Chronic total occlusion due to arteriosclerosis (see code first note)
