    Default phacoemulsification with limbal relaxing incision

    AAPC: Back to School
    If pt had a phacoemulsification with lens and also a limbal relaxing incision for astigmatism, would that make the cpt 66982-complex cataract removal? it doesnt have anywher in chart that the astigmatison was or was not surgically induced, it was done prior to the cataract surgery though. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Surgically induced astigmatism is usually due to a corneal transplant, etc. If the chart indicates astigmatism prior to surgery and an L.R.I. is indicated this procedure is not covered by insurance and is paid out of pocket by the patient.

    no it would still be 66984 and 65772 bundles per CCI

    No! You would not code an L.R.I. that was not surgically induced as CPT 65772 therefore the edits would not apply and the patient would pay out of pocket as stated prior.
