I have a handwritten note in the record stating:

Physician performed a R/L Heart Cath. Patient was pronounced brain dead, the heart and liver were donated. How would I code this????? Please explain.

    Thank You

Are you looking for CPT or ICD-9 or both?

    Default heart cath only?
I don't code cardiology, so don't know if you have enough documentation, but really the only thing I see the physician doing here is performing the R/L heart cath. (And I strongly suspect there isn't enough documentation to code this.)

Just saying that the heart and liver were donated doesn't qualified for coding the harvesting of those organs.

    Hope that helps.
