Default can a gastroenterologist bill for this.....

    and get paid?

From a billing prospective is it possible for our practice to begin doing EKG's for patients who be will having their procedure done at the hospital. I am not sure if this is billable, considering it is a requirement of the hospital and not us. The patients are always complaining about having to go to the hospital for priority testing and a lot of them don't go until the day of their procedure and this holds up the cases, etc. We were just wondering if this would be possible for us to do and bill.

Anyone have an answer on this, or does your practice do their own EKG's?

The hospital only requires that the EKG be done. As long as it's medically necessary, it's billable. The doctor himself should review and interpret.

We were trying to determine if it would make sense to buy the equipment and do the EKG ourselves, to make it easier for our patients. (instead of making them drive to the hospital, pay for parking, and end up spending quite a bit of time....as having anything done at a hospital can take time.) We weren't sure if our physician, a gastroenterologist, would be reimbursed for performing these services.

Also, we were curious how much the insurance companies pay for this, if you are billing for the professional and technical component combined.

Does anyone currently bill for EKG's?

Default Did your office start doing the EKG's

Did your office start performing and billing the EKG's?

Our office performs EKG's w/all procedures done our office endoscopy suite and the leads stay in place during the procedures to monitor the patient. A small strip is printed pre-op to and post-op then filed w/the procedure flow sheets. Our office does not bill for the EKG &/or monitoring. I would like to know more on this...
