Our ortho doctor performs what he says is an arthroscopic biceps tenotomy. He says this is a fairly new procedure. CPT lists only an open tenotomy. Could someone shed some light on this new arthroscopic procedure. Thanks.
It's the unlisted 29999. It's been around for some time (not sure how long though). BUT we are now instructed to report the arthroscopic biceps tenotomy with 29822 (Limited debridement). To do this you MUST have documentation that besides RELEASING the biceps tendon that your doc did some type of debridement of the tendon. If not you will be stuck with reporting the unlisted 29999 which ALL insurance companies bundle into EVERYTHING (RC repair, etc.). Hope this helps.
