Instructor Requirements:

  • Must be an AAPC certified member in good standing.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of medical coding experience.
  • Must complete an Instructor's Course.
  • Instructors teaching our CPC must hold a CPC certification.

AAPC's Curriculum Offerings

Through AAPC’s Educational Partnerships, your school can license the following courses and offer them to your students. As a licensee, you will receive a complete set of curriculum materials for online and face-to-face instruction to improve your educational offerings and student outcomes.

Your school can license and offer AAPC’s curriculum for the following certifications: CPB, CPC, COC, CIC, CPMA, and the CPPM.

This course introduces the student to the human body in language used by medical coding, billing, and reimbursement professionals. The course will give the student an understanding of how the human body operates on a daily basis, and the training is valuable for anyone preparing for a career in any non-clinical medical profession.

CPB This course introduces the student to the health insurance and reimbursement industry. Students will become familiar with common medical billing practices, the health insurance industry, legal and regulatory issues, and differences in reimbursement methodologies. Students will also learn principles of medical billing related to proper claim form preparation, submission, and payment processing. The training is recommended for anyone who is preparing for a career in a medical billing department at a physician's office, clinic, or similar positions.

COC This course will cover coding fundamentals including CPT®, ICD-10-CM Volumes 1-3, and HCPCS Level II coding, along with the Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), which is the payment method used by most payers in the hospital outpatient facility. The training will not cover inpatient coding or coding in the freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC).

CPMA Designed for the experienced coder, this course provides training for the multifaceted components of medical auditing. The training covers medical record standards and documentation guidelines, coding and documentation compliance, coding and reimbursement concepts, audit scope and statistical sampling methods, medical record audit abstraction, and category risk analysis and communication. A minimum of two years of coding experience is strongly suggested prior to taking this course.

This course introduces the student to the medical terminology used in the medical coding and reimbursement profession and covers medical terminology and anatomy from a coder’s perspective. The training is valuable for anyone preparing for a career in any non-clinical medical profession.

CPC This course teaches fundamental coding skills for an outpatient physician setting, and the training prepares the student to take the AAPC CPC® exam for a career in medical coding. The course provides the most up-to-date information relating to CPT®, ICD-10-CM Volumes 1 & 2, and HCPCS Level II coding. The training also assures a broad, encompassing knowledge and expertise in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for physician services.

CIC This course teaches fundamental medical coding skills for an inpatient facility setting. The training covers ICD-10-CM Volumes 1-3 and assures a broad knowledge in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for inpatient facility services.

CPPM This course covers fundamental skills for managing a physician's practice. The training is recommended for those who are ready to advance their careers in practice management. Billing, coding, or management experience in a medical clinic is highly recommended.
