Save Your Practice. Avoid Medicare Deactivation or Revocation

Being revoked or deactivated as a Medicare provider can ruin your practice, and it's up to you to assure you avoid it through revalidation.

Revalidation is the process through which a provider certifies the accuracy of his or her existing enrollment information with Medicare. Complying with revalidation requests within the specified time is necessary to avoid loss of billing privileges and disruption of Medicare reimbursements.

Provide Your Patients the Best AWV

Many patients and their providers misinterpret Medicare annual wellness visits (AWV). You need to know the types of AWV to assure your practice runs smoothly.

The AWV is a visit allowing the physician to get an overview of the patient's current health status. These screenings take the form of one of three types of visits, depending on patient status and services previously received.

Hiring Out Billing? Ensure PHI is Protected

Just because you have outsourced your practice's billing doesn't meant you aren't responsible for protected health information (PHI). Here are some tips to help protect your practice.

According to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) Privacy Rule, covered entities (CEs) such as hospitals, physicians, clearinghouses, and insurance payers are obligated to safeguard PHI. The HIPAA Security Rule extends liability of CEs to PHI transmitted in an electronic format (ePHI). HIPAA also defines business associates (BAs) as entities working as "trading partners" with CEs. Medical billing services under this definition are classified as BAs; however, unlike CEs, BAs were initially exempt from HIPAA statutes.
