Session 1: Are You Prepared For the 2022 CMS Proposed Rules?

Stephani E Scott, RHIT, CPC

It's no surprise that with the rapid changes in how healthcare is being delivered, the government has laid out more massive changes in its 2022 proposed rules. Having a proactive approach and understanding of what changes are expected will allow you and your team to confidently plan for the future. In this session, you will learn the CMS proposed rules for:

  • Split/Shared EM Services

  • Critical Care Services

  • Teaching Physician

  • Pricing Transparency

  • OPPS and ASC Payments

  • And more!

Session 2: How Has Telehealth Impacted Your Revenue Cycle?

Jessica Whitney, CPC, CPMA

Prior to the COVID-19 public health emergency in March 2020, telehealth services were covered by CMS and commercial payers under limited circumstances. But the declaration of the PHE ushered in a new era for telehealth services, quickly making it one of the most common healthcare delivery methods in the United States. Payers and healthcare providers scrambled to adapt to the change. In the 2022 proposed rule, CMS is advocating to make some of the telehealth changes permanent. The OIG will be evaluating the use of Medicare telehealth services during the COVID-19 pandemic with an expected report issue date in 2022. Additionally, various payers have started to implement pre-payment reviews for telehealth services. The quick implementation of telehealth services left practices and providers struggling to adjust their billing practices, resulting in an impact on their revenue cycle. In this presentation we will:

  • Identify the Current State of Telehealth, and What to Expect Moving Forward

  • Evaluate the Impact of Telehealth Services on Your Workflow and Revenue Cycles

  • Understand Tools to Help Mitigate Payer Audits and Denials

Session 3: What You Can Expect in 2022 and Beyond

Laura Brink, RHIT, CRC

Auditing for compliance with procedural coding is just one piece of the puzzle for your organization. With the rise of value-based programs, inaccurate coding and insufficient documentation could mean you're leaving money on the table. It's also important to understand the impact that accurate diagnostic documentation and coding has on selecting the appropriate E/M level. With the 2022 ICD-10 codes and guidelines ready to be activated for encounters beginning in October 2021, there is no time to delay getting your team prepared. Which is why in this session we will cover:

  • Overview of 2022 ICD-10 Changes

  • Top ICD-10 Auditing Challenges

  • Impacts of the Valued Based Payment Model

  • Physician Query Processes (and Not Just for Inpatient Services)
