Summary

The provider surgically corrects a hallux rigidus deformity, immobility of the first joint of the great toe, and also performs cheilectomy, i.e., chiseling away the bone spurs from the joint, along with cutting away of damaged tissues (debridement) and release of cartilage and other capsular structures of the metatarsophalangeal joint and places a silicone (a type of plastic) implant in the joint space to keep the toe straight and to relieve pain, stiffness, and restriction of movement.
