Continuing Education Units (CEUs)

The AAPC and the medical coding profession require continuing education to stay current with medical coding updates, compliance rules and government regulations. The AAPC supports its members to maintain a distinctive edge in their medical coding career by providing a wide variety of topics and subject matter delivered live, recorded, in classrooms and other mechanisms for certified coders to attain their required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and by also providing medical coding education and certification for non-certified coders.

Continuing Education Opportunities

	Workshops AAPC medical coding workshops are classroom-style local seminars taught by skilled presenters on current medical coding and billing topics. Participants can earn up to 6 CEUs for only $149.95. Each workshop is 3 hours in length, occurs once in 55 locations across the country and includes pre- and post-workshop quizzes.
	Audio Conferences/Webinars These intensive, interactive telephone events are an opportunity to listen to a special guest who occupies the expert “hot seat” and the participant weighing in throughout the discussion with questions and comments submitted via telephone or email. New in 2010, the AAPC’s webinars provide an interactive learning format, featuring an expert presenter delivering the latest information on current topics and answering questions via a live chat room from the audience.
	On Demand Events Get immediate access to the AAPC's most recently recorded events. Replay broadcasts online or download podcasts and presentation slides. The education and CEUs you need are available right now -- without the cost and inconvenience of time and travel.
	Distance Learning The AAPC offers distance learning (online) training courses to help coders prepare for certification exams and/or expand their coding knowledge. Courses include coding basics for physician offices, outpatient hospitals/facilities and specialty offices as well as anatomy, medical terminology and medical billing to supplement coding expertise.
	National/Regional Conferences The signature event of the American Academy of Professional Coders is its national conference. The event features educational breakout sessions, a hands-on anatomy expo taught by physicians, exhibitors, keynote presentations, showcasing of local chapters and several other opportunities to network and advance your career. Regional conferences offer the same educational opportunity as national AAPC conferences but are closer to home and at a lower price.
	Code-A-Round We have been aware that finding CEUs to comply with the specialty credential requirements has been a challenge, particularly if you are looking for low cost CEUs. Thus we are very excited to announce our Code-A-Round product. Code-A-Round is real world, redacted op notes bundled into small packages by specialty. Each bundle contains five operative notes and is available online.
	Other Low-Cost AAPC CEUs There are many opportunities to obtain your medical coding CEUs at low or no cost. These include attending local chapter meetings and local events, Test Yourself exercises from the Coding Edge and EdgeBlast, the CMS Learning Network and teaching opportunities.
