Since the CPC® exam tests examinees’ knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology, it is highly recommended that individuals have prior knowledge in these areas or take the AAPC’s online Medical Terminology and Anatomy courses before taking the CPC® Preparation Course.

Available either online or in the classroom, this course prepares the student to take the AAPC CPC® exam to obtain CPC® certification for a medical coding career in an outpatient physician office. This course teaches fundamental coding skills for an outpatient physician setting and assures a broad encompassing knowledge and expertise in reviewing and assigning the correct procedure and diagnosis codes for physician services.

Using an easy-to-follow outline format, the CPC® Study Guide book offers a comprehensive review of coding concepts that includes all the content sections found on the exam for the simplest, most efficient review. In each chapter of the study guide, pertinent physician coding principles are followed by coding scenarios related to that chapter.

The CPC® Extra Step Workbook provides cases found strictly in outpatient physician settings and organizes them to better prepare you for the CPC® Exam. With real world cases in both the CD-ROM and printed text, you'll be able to perform coding functions and be graded according to your responses, including rationales as to why your work is correct or incorrect.

Although limited in availability, review classes are offered by AAPC local chapters and AAPC instructors as an additional means to help prepare for our exams. They are generally one day and range from three to eight hours in length.

The AAPC's 50-question practice exams are the ideal simulation of the real exam. Since they emulate the content and difficulty level of the actual exam, they are a realistic indicator of your readiness for the CPC® Exam. There are three practice exams available, equaling the 150-question length of the actual exam.
