Question: Whats the best coding testing and certification program available? I know I need to take some tests and get certified, but Im not sure where to go.

Answer: There are certification programs available through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). The AAPC also has an independent study program, complete with study guides. The AAPC schedules exams throughout the year.

AHIMA also has a study guide. Its exam, however, is only given once a year in September. AAPC can be reached at (800) 626-2633. AHIMA can be reached at (312) 233-1100.
