Reader Question:

Myoblock

Question: Which code should be used to report Myoblock (botulinum toxin type B) for chemodenervation? The closest code I've found is J0585 (botulinum toxin type A, per unit).

Michigan Subscriber
Answer: There is no established code for Myoblock yet, but J0585 is not appropriate for reporting because it is clearly for type A, and Myoblock is type B. The best code to use is J3490 (unclassified drugs). Document the medication given, the amount administered, where it was administered and the reasons why it was necessary. Also be prepared to send an invoice from the medication charge as further documentation.
