READER QUESTIONS:

01922 Is Best Bet for Adrenal Gland Biopsy

Question: How should I code for anesthesia during a CT-guided adrenal gland biopsy?

Washington Subscriber

Answer: The surgical code for this procedure is 76360 (Computed tomography guidance for needle placement [e.g., biopsy, aspiration, injection, localization device], radiological supervision and interpretation), which crosses to 01922 (Anesthesia for non-invasive imaging or radiation therapy).

Code 01922 is probably the most accurate code, but some coders also say to consider 00860 (Anesthesia for extraperitoneal procedures in lower abdomen, including urinary tract; not otherwise specified). If you can't decide which code is more appropriate, ask the anesthesiologist for more details about the procedure.
