Reader Questions:

62263 Means Consecutive Days

Question: Code 62263's descriptor indicates for "two or more days." Must those be consecutive days? We have a patient who received treatment once a week for three weeks, so I'm not sure whether to code 62263 or 62264.New Hampshire SubscriberAnswer: Asking about this is a smart move because 62263 (Percutaneous lysis of adhesions using solution injection [e.g., hypertonic saline, enzyme] or mechanical means [e.g., catheter] including radiologic localization [includes contrast when administered], multiple adhesiolysis sessions; 2 or more days) does represent consecutive days.Because your patient was not treated on consecutive days, you should report 62264 (... 1 day) for these lysis procedures performed a week apart.Always be sure your documentation includes medical necessity for any interventional pain management procedure.
