Reader Questions:

74420 Crosses to 01922

Question: The surgeon used urography while performing a cysto with ureteral stent placement. Why did our system assign anesthesia code 01922 to the case instead of 00910?

Answer: When the physician performs a surgical procedure along with a noninvasive radiology procedure, you choose the anesthesia code with the most base units. In this case, 52332 (Cystourethroscopy, with insertion of indwelling ureteral stent [e.g., Gibbons or double-J]) crosses to anesthesia code 00910 (Anesthesia for transurethral procedures [including urethrocystoscopy]; not otherwise specified).

The radiology procedure 74420 (Urography, retrograde, with or without KUB) crosses to 01922 (Anesthesia for noninvasive imaging or radiation therapy). Code 00910 has 3 base units, and 01922 has 7 base units; that's why your system opted for 01922.
