Anesthesia Coding Alert

Reader Questions:

Check Days Before Using 62263

Question: When should I report 62263 for pain management procedures?

Illinois Subscriber Answer: You can report 62263 (Percutaneous lysis of epidural adhesions using solution injection [e.g., hypertonic saline, enzyme] or mechanical means [e.g., catheter] including radiologic localization [includes contrast when administered], multiple adhesiolysis sessions; 2 or more days) when your pain specialist performs lysis of adhesions.

The code includes everything from insertion to removal and the injections themselves, so you won't report additional codes for the service.

If the procedure only takes place on one day instead of two, report 62264 (... one day) instead.

Caution: Many carriers won't reimburse for epiduralysis because they consider it to be an investigational procedure. Keep that in mind when scheduling or trying to bill for procedures.
