READER QUESTIONS:

Report 93503 for Combo S-G and CVP Port

Question: Some of our providers are using a new Swan-Ganz device that includes a side port for measuring CVP. How should I code this?

South Dakota Subscriber

Answer: Swan-Ganz placement always includes the CVP line, which means you shouldn't code them separately when the physician makes a single insertion. Report it with 93503 (Insertion and placement of flow-directed catheter [e.g., Swan-Ganz] for monitoring purposes).
