Dermatology Coding Alert

ICD-10:

Look to L81 for Expanded Dyschromia Diagnoses

Get ready to describe specific conditions with new codes.

Although the diagnosis coding for vitiligo will remain straightforward under ICD-10, with only one code (L80) substituting for the ICD-9 code (709.01), dermatology coders will find a lot more options for other dyschromia when the new coding system takes effect this October. ICD-10 adds seven new diagnosis codes describing specific dyschromia disorders – including chloasma, freckles, and café au lait spots.
