Answer: ICD-9 does not include a specific code for a monilial diaper rash. If the patient has general diaper rash, you should report 691.0 (Atopic dermatitis and related conditions; diaper or napkin rash), which includes dermatitis and erythema-related rashes.

The term "monilial" refers to a fungal infection caused by Candida, a yeast-like infection. For candidiasis in a non-neonate, report diagnosis code 112.x (Candidiasis). Assign the fourth digit based on the location of the fungus. For a girl who has candidal vulvovaginitis or monilial vulvovaginitis, use 112.1 (Candidiasis, of vulva and vagina). Candidiasis may also appear as thrush in newborns (112.0).
