Report Collagen Skin Tests With Q3031

Question: A patient came to us for her first collagen injections. The dermatologist performed a collagen skin test to make sure she wasn't allergic. How should I code for collagen skin test?

South Carolina Subscriber

Answer: There is a Level II HCPCS code for the procedure (Q3031, Collagen skin test). No relative value units have been assigned by the Resource Based Relative Value Scale payment system. You may need to check with your payers to determine if these services are payable. And if not, the patient will have to pay the bill.
