Anthrax Diagnosis Codes

The following are six ICD-9 codes for anthrax:
 
022.0 cutaneous anthrax
022.1 pulmonary anthrax
022.2 gastrointestinal anthrax
022.3 anthrax septicemia
022.8 other specified manifestations of anthrax
022.9 anthrax, unspecified.  
The three main types of anthrax are cutaneous, acquired through direct skin contact with source (022.0); gastrointestinal, acquired by ingestion (022.2); and pulmonary (022.1), acquired through the airways from environmental sources. These codes are only used for confirmed cases of anthrax.
