Sickle-Cell Codes to Keep in Mind

When reporting services related to acute chest syndrome (ACS), refer to this quick list for sickle-cell crisis codes that aren't quite at the tip of your tongue:

282.42 -- Sickle-cell thalassemia with crisis. This diagnosis can include sickle-cell thalassemia with vaso-occlusive pain and thalassemia Hb-S disease with crisis. 282.62 -- Sickle-cell disease; Hb-SS disease with crisis. Code 282.62 refers to Hb-SS disease with vaso-occlusive pain and sickle-cell crisis not otherwise specified. 282.64 -- Sickle-cell/Hb-C disease with crisis. This code includes Hb-S/Hb-C disease with crisis and sickle-cell/Hb-C disease. 282.69 -- Other sickle-cell disease with crisis. Included in 282.69 are Hb-S/Hb-D disease (with crisis), Hb-S/Hb-E disease (with crisis), sickle-cell/Hb-D disease (with crisis), and sickle-cell/Hb-E disease (with crisis), as well as other sickle-cell disease with vaso-occlusive pain.
