Reader Questions:

Ease Into Ileoscopy and EGD Claims

Question: What code should I use for an ileoscopy, and can I bill an EGD separately with that code?

Idaho Subscriber

Answer: You should report an ileoscopy using one of three codes:

- 44380 -- " Ileoscopy, through stoma; diagnostic, with or without collection of specimen(s) by brushing or washing (separate procedure)

- 44382 -- " ... with biopsy, single or multiple

- 44383 -- " ... with transendoscopic stent placement (includes predilation).

You can bill for an EGD (such as 43235, Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy including esophagus, stomach, and either the duodenum and/or jejunum as appropriate; diagnostic, with or without collection of specimen[s] by brushing or washing [separate procedure]) only if your gastroenterologist performs both procedures.
