READER QUESTIONS:

Excision Codes Still Count for Stoma Site

Question: How should I report excision of a skin lesion at the stoma site?

Oklahoma Subscriber

Answer: You should report such lesion excisions as normal, using either 11400-11406 (Excision, benign lesion including margins, except skin tag [unless listed elsewhere], trunk, arms or legs ...) or 11600-11606 (Excision, malignant lesion including margins, trunk, arms, or legs ...), as appropriate, depending on whether the pathology report identifies the lesion as benign or malignant.
