Beware of COVID-19 Fraud Through Social Media, IT

Even during a crisis of epic proportions like the COVID-19 pandemic, you must be on the lookout for fraud. Last month, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) updated its site with a COVID-19 fraud alert. “Scammers are offering COVID-19 tests to Medicare beneficiaries in exchange for personal details, including Medicare information,” OIG cautions. “However, the services are unapproved and illegitimate.” “Fraudsters are targeting beneficiaries in a number of ways, including telemarketing calls, social media platforms, and door-to-door visits,” says the agency guidance.
