If you’re planning to attest to the meaningful use (MU) of your electronic health record (EHR) system so that you can receive federal funding, you’d better make sure that you cover 10 essential bases.
The HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) released a 10-step plan (www.healthit.gov/providers-professionals/ehr-privacy-security/10-step-plan) that providers can use to protect privacy and security, and thus comply with MU requirements. Make sure you start these 10 steps at least 90 days before the date you target to start the EHR incentive program, ONC stresses.
