Use this simple outline to guide your implementation.

You may not be inclined to utter "simple" and "revised ABN" in the same sentence--but stressing the basics in staff training could boost your chances for compliance in the post Sept. 1 era of home health advance beneficiary notices.

To help overcome the confusion surrounding the ABN, "break it down," suggests consultant Regina McNamara of Kelsco Consulting in Cheshire, CT.

For starters, make sure staff grasp the three main "triggering events" that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services outlines in its final instructions.
