Industry Note:

Use New ABN Quick Glance Tool To Make ABN Calls

You've got newly revised instructions that go with the home health advance beneficiary notice (HHABN) form that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services started requiring back in April. The new instructions aim "to further clarify and simplify provider understanding of the previously released information regarding HHABN issuance and policy in ... the Medicare Claims Processing Manual," CMS says in Dec. 1 Transmittal No. 2362 (CR 7323). New tool: The transmittal offers a new "HHABN Quick Glance Guide" to help agencies figure out which of the three ABN options to use, if any. The transmittal is at www.cms.gov/transmittals/downloads/R2362CP.pdf and the new tool is on p. 7.
