Home Health & Hospice Week

OASIS:

It's Official: Final OASIS C Form Approved

Providers wait anxiously for accompanying OASIS Manual update.

If you took an advance look at the OASIS C form the feds released a few weeks ago for vendor training, you're one step ahead in your OASIS C preparation. That's because the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services received final approval from the Office of Management and Budget for OASIS version 12.4 on July 29. There are no changes from the draft form CMS had issued a few weeks earlier for training purposes (see Eli's HCW, Vol. XVIII, No. 26, p. 202).

The OASIS C form continues to be on track for Jan. 1 implementation, CMS said in the Open Door Forum for home care providers that day.

However, home health agencies will have to wait for the crucial item-by-item guidance on answering the new OASIS items. The instructions in the OASIS User's Manual formerly known as "Chapter 8" won't be released until mid-September, CMS confirmed to a caller. That will be after the state OASIS Education Coordinators (OEC) conference.
