Question: We have a new patient with prostate cancer with metastasis to the hip bone. He underwent placement of an intramedullary rod in the right femur. We are providing aftercare. Should we code aftercare for neoplasm or replacement of hip? -- Iowa Subscriber Answer: When choosing an aftercare code, consider the condition that required the surgery. Because this wasn't a hip replacement, use V58.42 (Aftercare following surgery for neoplasms).
