Question: Our OASIS/PPS Summary Sheet shows that a neurological diagnosis on M0240 would give us 20 points. Our patient has trigeminal neuralgia. But when we key this into our system, the pop-up shows no points. Is trigeminal neuralgia not considered neurological?

Answer: The only neurological diagnoses that provide points in M0240b are those on the list provided in the PPS final regulations. Those diagnoses that provide points in M0240 are all manifestation diagnoses, meaning they are always coded after the etiology of the condition. Trigeminal neuralgia is not a manifestation code; therefore, it does not provide any points in M0240b.
