Get To Know Your Recovery Audit Contractor

RACs' contingency fees range from 9 to 12.5 percent.

Recovery Audit Contractors may turn their sights on hospice any day, but do you even know your RAC's name? Refer to this list to keep them straight and identify how much of your over- or underpayment they'll pocket. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced this information when it began rolling out the RAC program nationwide in 2008:

  • Region A (Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont) -- Diversified Collection Services (DCS), Livermore, Calif., 12.45 percent contingency fee.
  • Region B (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin) -- CGI Technologies and Solutions, Fairfax, Va., 12.5 percent contingency fee.
  • Region C (Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia, Puerto Rico) -- Connolly Healthcare, Wilton, Conn., 9 percent contingency fee.
  • Region D (Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming) -- HealthDataInsights, Las Vegas, 9.49 percent contingency fee.
