Hospices Get Another Shot At Submitting Electronic Cost Reports Outside MCReF

If you weren’t quite ready to submit electronic cost reports to the Medicare Cost Report e-Filing (MCReF) system when Medicare switched over to it this summer, there’s good news — the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has extended the time that the HHH Medicare Administrative Contractor portals can accept the electronic reports to Jan. 2, 2019. Previously, CMS had instructed MACs to stop accepting the reports through their portals on July 2, 2018. “The MCReF shall be the only acceptable means of electronic submission of the MCR on or after 1/2/2019,” CMS says in a newly revised CR issued Oct. 24. “MACs shall discontinue the electronic submission of the MCR by providers through their portals on or before 1/1/2019,” says CR 10611 online at www.cms.gov/Regulations-and-Guidance/Guidance/Transmittals/2018Downloads/R2153OTN.pdf.
